Hey everyone,

We are running MOM2005 on Windows 2003 /sp1 in a Windows 2003 domain. We
are aslo running Exchange 2003 on Windows 2003 servers. I have three "Front
End" servers in the DMZ that I would like MOM to monitor. I manually
installed the agent on each of these system and set the control level to
"NONE".

I also set my (one and only) Management Server to accept new manually
installed agents. I commited the configuration changes and restarted the
MOM service. I then created a discovery rule the locate the three servers.
When they were found they were placed in "Pending Actions". The "Pending
Action" is "Install agent". Why is that? I already installed the agents
manually. If I right click on each node I get "Approve for processing by
computer discovery" and "Install agent now...".

According to the docs I should be getting "Approve Manual Agent Installation
Now". Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks for any help.

PS: We have NOT opened port 1270 yet.

Manual agents, once they initially connect to the Management Server, will
appear in pending actions for "approve manual agent". By creating a
computer discovery rule before the agent had connected, the computer was
instead added in the pending state to install a new agent. Your best course
of action is to decline the pending action, delete the computer discovery
rule, and delete the computer from "unmanaged computers". This will allow
the computer to add itself with the proper manual agent settings the first
time it connects to the managment server.

If the computer is not connecting, verify port 1270 has TCP/UDP access
between the manual agent server and the management server. Once this access
is available, the next time the manual agent tries to connect to the
management server it will appear in pending actions for approval.
